At SACMID, media monitoring is at the core of our mission to foster media development in Bangladesh and the South Asian region. We believe a responsible and inclusive media landscape plays a crucial role in tackling poverty, enabling sustainable development, and promoting information literacy. This is why we engage in various media monitoring projects, using rigorous methods and diverse approaches to assess media content and generate impactful outcomes.
Our Media Monitoring Projects:
- Gender Media Monitoring: We analyze the representation of gender in Bangladeshi media, identifying and addressing gender gaps and promoting balanced and inclusive coverage. This project, implemented under the PRIMED initiative, contributes to a more equitable and informed society.
- Combating Misinformation and Disinformation: We research, campaign, and build capacity to combat the spread of fake news and misinformation online. Our “Facts First” initiative empowers citizens to critically evaluate information and make informed decisions.
- Media and Conflict Sensitivity: We monitor media coverage of sensitive issues like conflict, elections, and natural disasters, assessing potential risks and advocating for responsible reporting that promotes peace and stability.
- Independent Media Monitoring: We monitor the state of independent media in Bangladesh, identifying threats and advocating for measures to strengthen press freedom and ensure diverse voices are heard.
