Jashore’s fact-checking team uncovered two false stories in the first week of October 2024. This rural initiative is part of the “Connecting Community, Strengthening Voices Through CSO-Media Alliance in Jashore District” project.
The first fake news item involved a digitally altered image suggesting a lavish marriage involving a significant dowry. The second fabricated news story was a fraudulent job recruitment notice, falsely claiming to be from Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
These findings highlight the increasing prevalence of misinformation and the crucial role of community-based fact-checking initiatives in combating fake news, especially in rural areas.
