South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) successfully organized a day-long workshop titled “Cybersecurity” in Khulna. The workshop took place today, Wednesday (7 May 2025), at the CSS Ava Center in Khulna.

The workshop was organized under the project “Empowering Media Professionals, Girl Students, and Community Women through an Improved Understanding of Digital Threats and Security Measures.” funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Banglades. In Khulna district, the project is being implemented in partnership with the local NGO, Community Welfare Foundation.

The workshop was facilitated by Nazia Afrin Monami, Adjunct Faculty at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). She provided hands-on training on digital security, fact-checking, responsible use of social media, and safe online communication techniques.

Officials from SACMID and Mohammad Nasimul Haque, Director of the Community Welfare Foundation, were also present at the event.

The workshop saw the active participation of women from various professions including social workers, entrepreneurs, teachers, homemakers, parents, district information officer, NGO representatives, and legal professionals—highlighting the growing interest in digital empowerment among local women.

Participants learned how to protect their personal information and why not all content should be shared on social media. Key topics covered in the workshop included cyberbullying, deepfakes, both the positive and negative impacts of artificial intelligence (AI), safe use of social media platforms, digital ethics, and precautions for online shopping.

SACMID plans to implement this project over the next year in Cumilla, Khulna, and Sirajganj. Through this initiative, SACMID aims to raise awareness about digital risks, strengthen cybersecurity practices, and enhance digital literacy among women and youth.
