September 23, 2024: A seminar and essay competition were held to combat misinformation among students. This event was organized by the South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) with financial support from the Netherlands Embassy.
The program was held at the Sher-e-Bangla School and College, Madhubag, Dhaka, and was presided over by the institution’s acting principal, Hosne Ara Helen.
Hosen Ara Helen, addressing students to prevent the spread of rumors, stated, ‘Just as any information found on the internet cannot be believed, it cannot be shared without verification. Additionally, public awareness and vigilance are crucial for preventing and combating rumors. To this end, it is essential to create a multi-stakeholder approach to raise awareness among students about misinformation and to prevent the spread of rumors.
20 participants from different classes participated the competition.
SACMID Program Officer Mahbuba Ahmed Rozi and Md. Rasheduzzaman Rashed moderated the discussion. Prizes were distributed among the participating students at the end of the competition.
