SACMID shared research findings of situation analysis in Three districts in Bangladesh to review the rumor situation in social media platforms.

South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) presented research findings of situation analysis in Dhaka to review the rumor situation in social media platforms funded by embassy of Netherlands at Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) Auditorium on 8th February, 2024.

The workshop was jointly organized by SACMID and PIB. The Workshop chaired by the director general of PIB Zafar Wazed. Professor Dr Golam Rahman, former chief information commissioner and editor of Daily Akjker Patrika was the chief guest at the program. The project consultant Professor Dr. Shafiul Islam presented the research findings among the stakeholders. The research was conducted in Dhaka, Mymensing and Brahmanbaria. According to the research about 92% People use Facebook. Most of these users use it as their entertainment purpose. Besides most of the rumor and hate speech spread on religious and political issues.

After the findings sharing, stakeholders from diverse community shared their opinion and experiences on this issue. Zafar wazed discussed about extracurricular activities among young people which can make them aware of the over uses of Social media. Senior policy adviser of Embassy of Netherlands Namia Akhter gave importance on fact checking. Prof. Dr. Golam Rahman gave comments and advices on research method its improvement in the future. Police super of Cyber Crime unit of DMP Md. Najrul Islam discussed about the uses of social media. A total of 40 participants attended at the workshop.
