South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) has organized a human chain and a thematic workshop against rumor in social media in Mymensingh on 20th February 2024.
The human chain started at 10 am on the street in front of Mymensingh Zilla Parishad, an important public place of the city. Mahbuba Ahmed Roje, Program Officer, SACMID, Khandaker Faruk Ahmed and Ibnul Syed Rana from Trinamul Unnayan Sangstha (TUS), and others gave their speech on rumor and disinformation.
After the human chain a round table thematic workshop was organized at 11 am. The theme of the roundtable was: “what can be done to deal with rumors spread on social media and its harmful effects: perspective Mymensingh”. Nasrin Huda Bithi, Broadcast Journalist of Voice of America gave her speech as keynote speaker and Monira Begum from Mahila Parishad, Mymensingh gave her speech as co-speaker at the workshop. After their speech, the floor was opened for all participants and they gave their opinion on rumor, disinformation and hate speech.
These events were organized under the project: “Combating Mis and Dis-/information sparked by digital and social media platforms in Bangladesh”, which is funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and implemented by South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID).
