The vision of Digital Bangladesh is based on democracy, human rights, accountability, transparency, freedom of expression and establishing justice among the people through effective use of information and technology. It also includes the uses of information and technology among all the citizens of the country by reducing the digital divide. About 68.98% peoples using internet through mobile phones in Bangladesh. Most of these internet users are active in digital and social media platforms. But many of them don’t know how to use these platforms effectively. This knowledge gap regarding digital and social media uses is creating many socio-ethical problems throughout the country. Multiple detrimental episodes have occurred in Bangladesh in recent times. So there is still a big gap between the spread of smart phones and its appropriate uses. That is why SACMID has initiated this project supported and funded by Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Bangladesh, which aims at systematic campaigning to promote social and digital media literacy among the general people of the country giving a special focus on youth internet users and the marginalized population of the rural and gender-diverse community.
To reveal the current situation of social media behavior of the people, especially the youth communities in terms of their knowledge and skills needs, their attitude and day to day uses of the social and digital media platforms, and improve their awareness level regarding ‘mis and disinformation’ through forming a systematic campaign. among various stakeholders.
