South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) has successfully organized the final round of inter school debate competition on “Media Literacy” at Teacher Student Center of Dhaka University on 24 March 2019.
Professor Golam Rahman, Former Chief Information Commissioner has delivered the key speech and Md. Habibe Millat Munna, Member of Parliament was present as the chief guest of the event. The event started at morning with debate on various issues around Media Literacy. School debate teams from 10 selected schools of Dhaka city attended the competition through consecutive steps like quarterfinal, semifinal and final round. The two finalist teams debated on the topic “Only the readers are responsible behind spreading of fake news.” Dhaka Residential Model Collage debate team won the champion trophy while Monipur High School clinched the runner up trophy. The guests handed over crests to the winner and runners up team. It ended successfully with the speech of the chair. The event was co-organized by Dhaka University Debating Society in partnership with Access to Information (a2i) and supported by Free Press Unlimited.
It can be mentioned that the Inter School Debate Competition was started on 10 March. The School teams were nominated through a selection process among a total of 200 students. The event covered the issues like fake news, social media and internet safety, digital citizenship etc.
