Four-Day “Investigative Climate Journalism” Training Concluded in Khulna

The four-day training program on “Investigative Climate Journalism in Bangladesh” has successfully concluded in Khulna, August 23, 2025, after equipping participants with essential knowledge and skills to strengthen climate-focused reporting through investigative and constructive approaches.

The sessions were led by Mr. Rafiqul Islam Montu, an internationally awarded freelance journalist and pioneer of coastal journalism in Bangladesh, along with Mr. Md. Shamsuddoha, Chief Executive of the Center for Participatory Research and Development (CPRD) and a prominent climate change negotiator representing Bangladesh at the UNFCCC. The program was inaugurated earlier by Sara Monami Hossain, Head of the Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department at Khulna University.

A total of 30 fellows participated in this training, including 15 journalism students from public universities and 15 working journalists. They represented five regional public universities of Bangladesh—Khulna, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Comilla, and Barisal—ensuring a diverse exchange of experiences and perspectives.

With the conclusion of this session, the fellows have now returned to their respective regions and workplaces. Organizers are confident that the skills, insights, and networks gained during this training will significantly enhance their professional practice and contribute to impactful climate journalism across Bangladesh.

This initiative was organized under the flagship project “Journalism of the Future – Sustainable Quality Media Regain Trust,” spearheaded by DW Akademie in collaboration with the South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) and supported by German Cooperation.
