A consultation meeting on the media literacy contents has been held on 12 September at the meeting room of National Curriculum and Text Book Board (NCTB). Recently SACMID has developed 04 classroom lessons on Fact checking of media message to introduce this lesson in some selected secondary schools of the city on experimental basis, as a part of its media literacy interventions. Before piloting to introduce the lessons at school level, SACMID has organized this consultation meeting with national level experts to get their feedback’s and suggestions. The curriculum experts and content developers from NCTB and A2i have joined in the meeting.
The whole day program was started with a welcome speech by the Deputy Director & Program Manager of SACMID –Syed Kamrul Hasan. Professor Narayan Chandra Saha chaired the opening session while the Board members Professor Mashiuzzaman, Dr. Reazul Hasan, Secretary, NCTB, Dr. Nizamul Karim and Mr. Nazar-E-Zillani, Member, SACMID Board of Trust attended as special guests. The Chairman of NCTB, Secretary and Board members appreciated the SACMID’s initiative. They told that this knowledge will help to understand each other and help to plan for developing future educational contents. They requested the NCTB experts to pay attention to what SACMID has developed as media literacy contents and identify how they can help to fine tune and make those contents applicable to the students.
In technical session, Afia Sultana, the project coordinator, Promoting Media Literacy in Bangladesh – presented the drafted media literacy content. She has presented the theme on fact checking media message dividing into 04 consecutive lessons (half an hour for each session). The lessons have been designed targeting the teachers, who will be trained first and then they would disseminate their knowledge among their students. The experts have provided their valuable inputs and suggestions during the technical session on which SACMID has taken notes to work further on revising the media literacy contents.
Mr. Reazul Hasan, member NCTB and Mr. Nazar-E-Zillani gave vote of thanks at the end of the workshop. The consultation meeting was organized by SACMID in collaboration with NCTB and A2i, while the program was financially supported by Free Press Unlimited.
