Grassroots Election Reporting Training for Women Journalists Concludes in Rajshahi

A three-day specialized training program on grassroots election reporting for women journalists came to a successful close today, April 4, 2026, in Rajshahi. Organized under a joint initiative of UNESCO and SACMID, the program brought together 25 women journalists from districts across the Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions.

The closing ceremony was marked by a certificate distribution for all participants, recognizing their engagement and commitment throughout the program.
The event was graced by an online address from Dr. Susan Vize, UNESCO Representative to Bangladesh, who joined the ceremony virtually to offer her remarks and encouragement to the participants.

Professor Dr. Md. Mozammel Hossain Bakul, Chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Rajshahi, delivered a special guest address underscoring the critical importance of professionalism, sensitivity, and ethical responsibility in reporting on grassroots-level elections.

Dr. Jannatul Jahan, Chairperson of the Department of Communication and Journalism at North Bengal International University, also spoke at the event, highlighting how capacity-building initiatives of this nature play a pivotal role in advancing the professional development of women journalists across the region.

Over the course of three days, participants engaged in interactive sessions, collaborative group work, and hands-on practical exercises. The training equipped them with essential skills in grassroots election coverage, information verification, personal safety protocols, and the principles of responsible, evidence-based reporting.

Speakers and resource persons expressed confidence that the training will empower participants to approach future election reporting with greater professionalism, accuracy, and accountability contributing meaningfully to a more informed and inclusive media landscape.
