South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) has successfully concluded a two-day fact-checking training held from 28 to 29 January 2026 at the Brahmanbaria Press Club, aimed at strengthening journalists’ professional skills ahead of Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th National Election.
The training was conducted under the project “Her Vote, Her Voice”, funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh and implemented by SACMID with the support of local NGO partner Sanirvor Brahmanbaria.
The session was facilitated by Minhaj Aman, Research and Policy Lead at Activate Rights, who led discussions on misinformation and disinformation in the election context, ethical journalism, and the critical role of fact-checking in ensuring accurate and responsible reporting.
A total of 20 participants joined the training, including journalists from various media platforms such as broadcast, print newspapers, and online media. Journalism students also participated, reflecting strong interest among emerging media professionals in fact-based reporting and election integrity.
On the first day, participants learned the fundamentals of fact-checking, including how misinformation and disinformation spread, why journalists must remain vigilant especially during election periods and the impact of false information on democratic processes. On the second day, participants received hands-on training using different fact-checking tools, equipping them with practical skills to verify information effectively in their professional work.
The program was attended by Syed Kamrul Hasan, Deputy Director and Program Manager of SACMID, and SM Shahin, Executive Director of Sanirvor Brahmanbaria, as guests of the training. The sessions were coordinated by Shadman Al Arbi and Abu Sufian, Program Officers of SACMID.
SACMID believes that strengthening fact-checking capacity among journalists is essential to promoting transparency, accountability, and a peaceful, informed electoral environment ahead of the 2026 national election.
