Second Day of Citizen Journalism Training in Brahmanbaria, Amplifying Women’s Voices Ahead of the 13th National Election

Second day of the Citizen Journalism Training organized by South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) was successfully concluded on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, at the Brahmanbaria Press Club, as part of preparations for the upcoming 13th National Election of Bangladesh.

The training was conducted under the project “Her Vote, Her Voice”, funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and implemented by SACMID. In Brahmanbaria with the support of local NGO partner Sanirvor Brahmanbaria.

The training session was facilitated by Sazal Saik, Stuff Reporter of Channel 24, who shared his practical experiences with participants on election-time reporting, fact-checking, ethical journalism, and covering electoral irregularities and violence.

Today’s session saw the active participation of individuals from diverse professional and social backgrounds, including teachers, students, businesswomen, entrepreneurs, musicians, and reporters.

The inclusive participation reflected the growing interest among different segments of society particularly women in responsible election-related reporting and civic engagement.

The training focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of citizen journalism in the election context, with emphasis on ethical reporting, fact-checking, identifying misinformation and disinformation, and documenting electoral irregularities responsibly. Participants were also encouraged to amplify women’s voices and promote informed, peaceful, and participatory electoral processes at the community level.

SACMID believes that engaging citizens from varied professions enhances grassroots monitoring and contributes to transparency, accountability, and credibility in the electoral process. The organization remains committed to empowering citizens especially women to play an active role in promoting a fair, inclusive, and violence-free election environment ahead of Election 2026.
