Stage Drama Inspires Awareness on Digital Threats Among Remote Char Community in Sirajganj

South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) successfully organized the second performance of the stage drama “Alor Pother Jatri” on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in a remote Char area of Sirajganj district, aiming to raise awareness about digital threats and promote safe online practices among rural communities.

The event was part of the project “Empowering Media Professionals, Girl Students, and Community Women through an Improved Understanding of Digital Threats and Security Measures,” funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh. In Sirajganj, the project is being implemented in collaboration with local partners — Community Development Organization (CDO) and Program for Women Development (PWD).

Reaching the Char required a boat journey, as it is only accessible by river. Despite the remote location, hundreds of people — including men, women, madrasa students, primary school children, and community members from different walks of life — gathered enthusiastically to enjoy and learn from the drama. Their participation reflected the community’s eagerness to understand and protect themselves from digital risks.

The drama delivered strong messages on how social media fraud occurs and what actions individuals can take to stay safe online. It also highlighted important emergency helplines — 999 for immediate assistance and 109 for reporting violence against women and children. Many participants expressed that the information shared through the drama was highly practical and relevant to their everyday lives.

The program was attended by Shadman Al Arbi, Program Officer at SACMID, and Husne Ara Jolly, Executive Director of the Program for Women Development (PWD).

This inspiring event not only entertained the audience but also empowered them with vital knowledge about digital safety and responsible online behavior. With the successful completion of the Sirajganj phase, the next programs under this initiative will continue in Cumilla and Khulna.
