A three-day training aimed at enhancing skills in investigative journalism concluded 31 May at Jayati Society, Jashore. Organized jointly by the South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) and Dainik Grammer Kagoj from 29th May to 31st May the training witnessed the active participation of journalists from various media outlets.
The training focused on four key areas: Data journalism, investigative journalism, Fact checking and Media Advocacy and development journalism. Throughout the duration of the event, 45 journalists engaged in intensive training sessions covering a wide array of topics pertinent to investigative journalism.
The first day’s training centered on data journalism, conducted by Palash Datta and MD. Alomgir Hossain. Participants were introduced to the principles and techniques of data journalism, learning how to collect, analyze, and present data effectively.
The second day of the workshop started with the training on investigative journalism, which was led by Mr. Julfikar Ali Manik. He provided an in-depth discussion on investigative journalism techniques and tools.
On the last day workshop on fact-checking was led by Shuvashish Dip, providing attendees with comprehensive insights into the critical role of fact-checking in investigative reporting. Meanwhile, Kazi Azam conducted a workshop on inclusion and media Advocacy emphasizing the importance of diversity and consultation in journalistic endeavors.
The concluding day of the training featured a closing speech delivered by Mobinul Islam Mobin, the Editor of Dainik Grammer Kagoj. His address summarized the key takeaways from the workshop and underscored the significance of continuous learning and development in the field of investigative journalism.
Overall, the training served as a platform for journalists to enhance their skills, exchange ideas, and deepen their understanding of investigative journalism practices. It is hoped that the knowledge gained during this event will contribute to the promotion of ethical and impactful journalism in the region.
