Seminar organized at ULAB Campus
As part of celebrating “Open Data Day” for the first time in Bangladesh, SACMID has joined with ULAB (University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh)& Dataful as co-organizer and conducted a Seminar at the conference room of ULAB Campus on 9 March 2020.The seminar was titled as: “towards data literacy in Bangladesh” which has aimed to inform and aware the participants regarding the significance of open data and seek their possible cooperation to promote the data literacy idea on wider scale. A number of participants were present in the seminar that included representatives from UNDP, A2i, BRAC and students from different batches of Media Studies & Journalism Department of ULAB. Along with them Dr. Jude William Genilo, Professor and Head, Media Studies & Journalism Department and other faculties from ULAB attended in the seminar.Mr. Aminul Islam, Faculty of Media Studies & Journalism Department, ULAB has presented a paper to uphold the importance of open data and how to make access towards open data. Likewise, Mr Palash Datta from Dataful, has also kept a discussion on access to open data and manner of present data with info graphics.He also showed an example by unveiling a booklet on a recent databased observation of his organization on Bangladeshi Private Universities.Mr. Syed Kamrul Hasan, Deputy Director, SACMID showed his solidarity with the celebration of open data day and told that data literacy is an inseparable part of media literacy because it relates to production and management of fact-based media contents.Furthermore, representatives from UNDP, BRAC and A2i made reflection of their experiences of dealing with data in their respective organizations. After presentation, discussants made the floor open to get views or thoughts from the audience and few of them made reflection on presentation.At the end of the seminar, Dr. Jude William Genilo made the concluding notes.
