Women in Media: Breaking Stereotypes

I always thought of doing something different since my childhood! I have started working in media channels during my school years, by joining ETV team for production of “Mukto Khabor”, a specialized program of child and adolescents. In later days, I have built up my career as an Ad Maker. No, I do not feel myself separated or different. So, I do not take granted any adverse or negative comments as regards to my works. I am fortunate that I always get support and encouragement for my work from my family members like my parents, brothers and sisters. There are so many types of professions and means of livelihood! Since we are not aware of that diversity in profession, we often misunderstand. We need to have patience and instead of misbehave with the critics in and around,we need to make efforts to convince them. To those who aspires to build their career on a non-traditional track, I have to tell them: please follow your dream which you cherish. The present generation is found restless, it can be observed that many of the students start studying in a particular subject in a private university and after a few days they change from campus to campus, subject to subject. This is one of the great challenges of the present time. As everything is easily available it has both the sides of effects – negative and positive. I must say to my younger fellows: try to study something after analyzing related information and future prospects. There was a time, when parents did not allow study in Arts or Cinema as chosen subjects at university level. Now, things have been changed and the opportunities to work in these fields have also been increased. It would be better to be specialized in one discipline of study, instead of being a jack of all trades.

No odd comments frustrated me and made any change in my career path. Because, I do not want any damage to my inspiration by giving indulgence to hateful comments. I have been working as an Independent Ad Maker for 3 years. Before that I have worked with the veteran Film Director and Ad Maker of the country Mr. Amitabh Reza Chowdhury as Assistant Director. So far I have been involved in producing 60 advertisements.

I think advertisement has done pretty progress in our country that cinema or fiction could not do.I think there will be supports in flourishing those areas in future. I dream of a Bangladesh with a clean image where there will have no discrimination in cast, creed, race or gender.
