31 July,Dhaka,Bangladesh : A Round Table workshop on dissemination of media literacy survey held at Dhaka,where SACMID research team has presented the preliminary findings of its recent country-wide study on the media access,usage and competence of 2400 secondary level students of 24 school and madrasah across the country. The invited participants from different academic institutes like university,madrasah & school and the representatives from International Agency, media ,civil society and government departments provided valuable inputs and suggestions to further review,improve the study paper in its final version.
Reputed Professor,Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Dhaka University and and former Chief Information Commissioner Dr.Golam Rahman joined as Chief Guest of the Program. While Dr.Luthfor Rahman,Curriculum Specialist from National Curriculum and Text Book Board (NCTB),Dr. William Jude,Chairman,Media Studies and Journalism Department,University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and Md. Murshid Aktar,Head of Education Program,PLAN International joined as the special guests of the program.
Representatives from Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Directorate,Press Institute Bangladesh(PIB),Access to Information (a2i) of ICT Ministry,Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (National News Agency),Jahangirnagar University,Green University,teachers from Madrasah and schools participated in the discussion and made the presentation event interactive.
The program was chaired by Mr. Najar-E-Jilani,Member,Board of Trust of SACMID.
It can be mentioned that the study titled as “Media literacy among students of secondary school & madrasah of Bangladesh: An exploratory research” was led by Dr.A.S.M.Asaduzzaman,Associate Professor,Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Dhaka University. The other members of the Research Team are : Sabbir Ahmed Chowdhury,Assistant Professor,Institute of Education and Research,University of Dhaka,Abu Ahmed Shamim,Former Research Adviser,BRAC,Syed Kamrul Hasan,Program Manager(&Deputy Director) of SACMID and Afia Sultana,Project Coordinator of SACMID.
